The UJ Faculty of Dentistry alumni, who have taken the final exam of the Arab Board of health specializations for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty, have all passed the exam successfully.

 

Twenty one doctors from several Arab countries have sat down to take exam, including four doctors who have completed the Higher Specialty Program in Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial from the University.

 

The four doctors have succeeded with 100% rate, noting that the exam's success rate is 67%.

The examination committee consisted of professors from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan and Jordan; the members of the committee have expressed their satisfaction and admiration for the facilities provided by the University to organize this exam.

 

The exam, which was held at the University and for the first time outside of the Syrian Arab Republic, in cooperation with the Department of Dentistry at the University of Jordan Hospital, qualifies the doctors to practice Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Specialty in most Arab countries.

UJ’s Faculty of Dentistry has been recently recognized by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) to have European standards in dental education, with a curriculum in agreement with EU guidelines (ADEE standards).  The recognition certificate was granted after the Faculty of Dentistry has completed a self-assessment of the curriculum followed by a comprehensive review by a team of peers from European centers of dental education.

ADEE, founded in 1975, has played an important role in this field by enhancing the quality of education, advancing the professional development of dental educators and supporting research in education and training of oral health personnel. 

This recognition marks three decades of the Faculty’s hard work and determination to excel, and will undoubtedly enhance its graduates employability and competitiveness for pursuing graduate studies in prestigious institutions worldwide.

The 1st research workshop of the dental Research Club was held in the faculty of Dentistry in 27.09.2014. Various research related topics were covered in clouding:

-         Literature Review

-         Electronic database

-         Research proposals and others

The workshop was attended by dental Students and dental interns.

 

The lectures were given by professors and researchers from faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy & Dentistry.

The Faculty of Dentistry hosted Dr. Rami Farah on 30-12-2014. He is a University of Jordan graduate  and is currently working as a Honorary Senior Lecturer at Otago University and a Paediatric Dentist at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare in Saudi Arabia.

 

Dr. Farah gave a lecture to the faculty’s staff, postgraduates and interns entitled:

 

"MIH: Translating research into clinical practice"

         

The presentation described his team's research finding and their clinical applications.

Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Jordan Prof. Zaid Baqain met with representatives of companies dealing with dental materials and equipment in the kingdom. Prof. Baqain thanked the companies for their cooperation throughout 2014, and invited them to participate in the school’s scientific activities by sponsoring events and bringing international speakers. Discussions also focused on the upcoming eighth conference planned on May 27th and 28th, 2015 entitled:  “Dental Education in the Arab World: A Look at the Future”

The CEC of the Faculty of Dentistry has conducted two core courses for the 4th and 5th year dental students on March 7, 2015. The topics covered related to infection control and radiation protection and were presented by Dr. Faris Albakri from the faculty of medicine, and Dr Abeer Alhadeedi, Dr Yezen Hassoneh and Dr Omar Karatsheh from the faculty of dentistry.

The CEC of the Faculty of Dentistry had hosted Dr. Nikola Vasilic from the University of Belgrade who presented a lecture entitled:

 "IMMEDIATE IMPLANT PLACEMENT”

for postgraduate students and staff members on April 16, 2015. The aspects covered in this lecture were related to the indications and keys to the success for the immediate loading and placement of dental implants. The lecturer not only focused on theoretical scientific aspects, but also placed major emphasis on techniques of relevance to clinical practice.

The 1st Students Scientific Day was held at Faculty of Dentistry- University f Jordan in 4th April 2015. The Scientific Day involved presentations of clinical cases and research presented by students and interns at the Faculty of Dentistry.

The Scientific Day was attended by faculty students, interns, and teaching staff. Certificates and prizes were presented to distinguished students. The prizes were kindly offered by Abd-Alhadi for dental supplies and Tela`a Alali library.

دعا نقيب أطباء الأسنان الدكتور ابراهيم الطراونة إلى تطوير البرنامج الشامل في زراعة الأسنان الذي يعقده مركز الاستشارات  في الجامعة الأردنية بحيث يأخذ مسارا أكاديميا ويمنح درجة علمية.

 

وقال خلال كلمته في حفل تخريج الفوج الثالث من منتسبي البرنامج الذي لاقى اهتماما دوليا، إنه يعد أنموذجا في العلاقة التكاملية بين النقابة ومؤسسات طب الأسنان المختلفة، ويرقى إلى آن يأخذ شكل الدرجات العلمية حيث يعقد بواقع200 ساعة تدريبية بإشراف نخبة من الأكاديميين المتميزين على مستوى القطاع.

 

وكشف الطراونة عن توجه الهيئة الأردنية لزراعة الأسنان  ضم جميع خريجي الفوج الثالث من البرنامج إلى عضوية الهيئة، نظرا للمستوى المتميز الذي يتمتعون به، ما يعزز من نتاجات الهيئة ومخرجاتها.

 

من جانبه هنأ عميد كلية طب الأسنان الدكتور زيد بقاعين الخريجين وذويهم، ولفت إلى أن البرنامج يعد باكورة أعمال الكلية في التعليم المستمر المتمثل في رسالة الجامعة الرامية إلى إنتاج المعرفة النظرية والتطبيقية ونشرها، والإسهام بشكل فعال في بناء ثقافة التعلم مدى الحياة، في ظل التغيير المستمر في المتطلبات العملية والتكنولوجية لبيئات العمل.

 

وأكد بقاعين سعي الكلية الدائم  إلى إعداد طبيب أسنان مؤهل بجميع المعارف والمهارات والكفايات التي يتطلبها عمله من خلال توفير بيئة تعليمية وتعلمية وبحثية وفق أحدث معايير الجودة وبأحدث الأساليب في إطار التعلم الصحي وتوفير المختبرات والعيادات الطلابية المجهزة بالتقنيات والأدوات والأجهزة الحديثة.

 

منسق لجنة البرنامج الدكتور أشرف أبو كركي قدم خلال كلمته إيجازا حول نشأة البرنامج وتطوره، مشيرا إلى أن بروز الحاجة لأطباء أسنان عامين مؤهلين في زراعة الأسنان شكلت الغاية من إنشاءه سعيا إلى سد الفجوة بين طبيب الأسنان العام وطبيب الاختصاص.

 

إلى ذلك قال مدير مركز الاستشارات محمد المعاقبة: إن البرنامج يأتي ضمن رؤية المركز في ربط الجامعة بالمجتمع بهدف تطويره وتدريب افراده والتفاعل معه والنهوض به من خلال تقديم خدمات تدريبية واستشارية منافسة عالية الجودة وتطوير حلول خلاقة وإبداعية لمواكبة متطلبات سوق العمل ورفده وتلبية احتياجاته من الكفاءات المؤهلة على أعلى المستويات بما يسهم في رفع سوية الأداء.

 

بدوره ثمن مدير شركة سيدارا لتطوير المشاريع (إحدى شركاء البرنامج) الدكتور رائد شحادة الدور الذي اضطلعت به مؤسسات الجامعة الأردنية المختلفة في إنجاح الشراكة بين القطاعين العام والخاص ليكون البرنامج نتاجا طيبا لهذه الشراكة.

 

يشار إلى أن البرنامج يعقد للعام الثالث على التوالي وينفذه مركز الاستشارات بالتنسيق مع كلية طب الأسنان ونقابة أطباء الأسنان وبالتعاون مع الجمعية الألمانية لزراعة الأسنان شركة سيدارا لتطوير المشاريع.

The University Of Jordan / DGOI International Training Curriculum in Implantology comprises 16 days of advanced training on a variety of topics related to implant dentistry plus hands-on workshops and live surgeries. It offers the practitioner a training certificate from the University of Jordan - Center of Consultation and certification by the DGOI Board.

 

The program is designed for dentists seeking solid continuing dental education of great relevance to their daily work.

 

The faculty includes renowned international experts in the field of oral Implantology.

 

All the experienced educators not only focus on theoretical scientific aspects, but also place major emphasis on techniques of relevance to daily practice.

 

Emphasis will be placed on showing the participants how to apply the techniques through exercises and live demonstrations. Participants will be given the opportunity to practice their skills. As a special bonus, exercises on suprastructures, as well as the recent subspecialities of augmentaton and red-white esthetics, have also been integrated into the program.

​A reserach team from the School of Dentistry, led by Dr Ahmad Al Ja'afari, developed a smart phone application to help children to practice good oral hygein habits and eat healthy food. 

The application was developed as an outcome of collaborative research project with King's College London, and funded by  The Borrow Foundation.

​The school of Dentistry has established a new postgraduate program in Oral Medicine and Special Care Dentistry.

The three year full time residency program contains comprehensive didactice, clinical and research elements.

It aims to provide graduates with knowledge, skills, and experience in the feilds of medical management of oral and maxillofacial diseases and provision of oral healhcare for individuals with disability and special healthcare conditions.
