Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry / Program Intended Learning Outcomes

At the successful completion of the Master program in Pediatric Dentistry the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a thorough and deep knowledge of all aspects of Pediatric Dentistry and relate academic knowledge to clinical practice.
  2. Construct a comprehensive treatment plan for pediatric patients based on a detailed history, examination and special investigations of the case.
  3. Determine and utilize behavior management techniques, both non-pharmacological and pharmacological; using sedation and general anesthesia for the treatment of pediatric dental patients.
  4. Diagnose, manage and follow up various types of primary and permanent dental trauma.
  5. Plan and apply interceptive orthodontic treatment for the management of pediatric patients at risk of developing future orthodontic problems and refer when necessary.
  6. Illustrate a high level of proficiency and competency in clinical skills using advanced restorative techniques based on an in-depth knowledge of dental materials science.
  7. Recommend interdisciplinary care and be an active part of the team for the management of medically compromised pediatric patients based on the knowledge and experience of hospital dentistry.
  8. Evaluate and critique current literature and research projects that relate to Pediatric Dentistry.
  9. Develop and execute a relevant research project of publishable quality and defend its methodology and results before a panel of experts.
  10. Employ the basic concepts of medical ethics and social values when offering treatment to pediatric patients and communicate competently with patients, parents and other professionals.
  11. Demonstrate the ability for continuous learning, professional development, critical thinking and solving problems.
  12. Utilize information technology in the clinical practice to monitor, manage, analyze, and transfer information to generate knowledge and employ it for future uses.
